Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Diego, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 10 am–8:45 pm. San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Diego is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Had the best seafood egg noodle soup with veggies and spring roll with the crunchy thingy inside (excellent dipping sauce!) The soup had fresh and generous quantities of veggies and “de-veined” !!! YESS!!! Someone finally figured out how to serve shrimp appropriately. And the young people serving were courteous and attentive to this old guy! Thanks. By the way, does anybody remember this used to be PHO NHU Y ?

This is a Vietnamese pho restaurant worth visiting again and again, and it also has excellent reviews online. This time we ordered the spring rolls—they were generously filled, with noticeably more meat than most places. The rice paper was wrapped tightly and didn’t fall apart, and dipped in the sweet and spicy fish sauce, they were absolutely delicious! The second dish was Bánh Xèo (Vietnamese crispy pancake). The outer layer was perfectly crispy, and the filling included shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts. Wrapped in lettuce and dipped in sauce, it tasted very refreshing and not greasy at all. The third dish was pig trotter pho. The broth had been simmered for a long time, rich in collagen, and the portion of meat was very generous!

A really solid pho spot in Kearny Mesa. The broth is complex, with hints of cinnamon, star anise, and allspice, and it isn’t doused in fish sauce at all, which I prefer. I ordered 3 bowls of large rare steak & brisket pho for me, my godson, and his friend. For $45 total ($15/bowl) this was quite a lot of food. They give you basil, lemon, bean sprouts, sriracha, hoisin, chili oil, and soy sauce. The steak and brisket is tender and not chewy, and the brisket is fall-apart level cooked. Once you load up the bowl with everything it’s absolutely delicious! One of my favorites in San Diego now. The interior is simple, but it works. It’s not stuffy or unclean in any way, and there’s plenty of space between tables. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and they’re attentive to water refills and any additional asks you might have. Overall, definitely recommend trying this spot out.

My #1 go to place. I’ve gone so much they recognize me now lol. Their service is so great. Food comes quick and amazing quality. My favorite is the elaborate menu. Not many Vietnamese restaurants have what these guys offer in San Diego. Highly highly recommended. You can feel in the restaurant the dedication and the passion into these recipes and service and how thoughtful these dishes are made!

Phở Duyên Mai absolutely delivered. The shrimp and vegetables phở was light, clean, and full of flavor. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the veggies still had that fresh crunch that makes the bowl feel balanced and satisfying. The filet mignon phở was just as impressive. Tender slices of beef that practically melt into the broth, and everything came out piping hot and beautifully seasoned. We also tried the egg rolls, and they were spot on crispy, well‑seasoned, and not greasy at all. Great texture, great flavor, and perfect with the dipping sauce and lettuce. Fast service, friendly staff, casual ambiance, and delicious food. Easy 5 stars and definitely a spot I’ll return to.
